Gerard Butler, best known for his epic role as Leonidas in “300″, will take on the role of a skanky, washed up soccer player trying to get his life right in ‘Playing For Keeps’. Check out the synopsis and more details after the jump!

The Nu Image/Millennium Films comedy stars Gerard Butler as a retired soccer pro who, burnt out on his playboy lifestyle and bankrupt, moves back to Virginia to reconnect with his estranged ex-wife (Jessica Biel) and son (Noah Lomax). He starts to coach the boys’ soccer team but is tested by the sexy soccer moms and desperate housewives he must deal with. Judy Greer, Dennis Quaid, Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones also star.
I like Gerard Butler. I think he’s a good actor and he’s got a certain swagger that he brings to his films. However, I am kind of wanting to see him in something else. Just looking at the synopsis, it looks like ‘Playing For Keeps’ is something of a rom-com and I’m not really interested in seeing him in another one. What do you think?

From what I’ve heard this new film is less a romcom and more of a family drama like Dear Frankie. There IS a “Desperate Housewives” element but the film focuses more on the relationship between father and son. Hope that helps.
That’s better than a Rom-Com. I am tired of seeing him in those. With that said, I’d like to see him in another thriller or action flick.
