Assassin's Creed Movie: Two New Fassbender Images Debut

It seems like it was eons since we last got a peek at 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed film adaptation, but today we’re in luck.  Two new stills from the movie have dropped, and if you’ve been following the game over the years, you’ll notice at least one major detail.

Here’s what Fassbender told the LA Times about his character, Callum Lynch, a drifter and thug who is kidnapped by Abstergo Industries so that he can time-travel (kinda.. but not exactly time travel in the classical sense) back to his 15th-century Spanish ancestor’s past and battle the Templars, their long-time rivals :

“Callum doesn’t belong to anything, doesn’t have a family,” Fassbender said of the character, who is different from the original games’ main protagonist, a young bartender named Desmond Miles. “We thought it would be interesting to have somebody that was disconnected be faced with what it means to join something so sacrificial.”

There will be some similarities with Desmond Miles, the OG Assassin’s Creed assassin, but fans of the game know that it’s not really feasible in the long-term if the studio wants to keep the films going after a certain point.  I’m a major Fassbender fan, so I’m here for anything he does, but I’m really concerned about how they are going to pull off the intricacies of the Assassin’s Creed universe in the first film.  Either way, I’m stoked.  And now I want to play Syndicate… Ugh!

Synopsis:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. ASSASSIN’S CREED opens in theaters worldwide on December 21st, 2016.

I can’t wait!
