Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2 Begins Filming in 2014

The Weinstein Company (TWC) confirmed earlier today that production on the sequel to the iconic and Academy Award-winning (among others) film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is set to begin in 2014 in Asia.  This film has all of the heavyweights in the genre behind it, or as close to that as they can get.  Michelle Yeoh will also reprise her role as Yu Shu Lien with Yuen Wo Ping directing.  Donnie Yen also stars as Silent Wolf.  Here are few more deets from the press release:

The screenplay is based on IRON KNIGHT, SILVER VASE by Wang Du Lu, book 5 in the CRANE-IRON PENTALOGY series, on which the original CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON was based. The screenplay is written by John Fusco (FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, HIDALGO, SPIRIT) and will be produced by Harvey Weinstein and David Thwaites, co-produced by Johnny Levin with Executive Producer Anthony Wong. Yucaipa Films is co-financing the project.

Harvey Weinstein and Yen, and Wo Ping will be holding a press conference in Cannes to answer a few questions about the film so here’s hoping to more details!

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon achieved legendary status the minute it joined the ranks of American pop culture despite being a foreign language film.  I remember the buzz around that film like it was yesterday.  It was just that big at the time.  I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves.
