533 kids, huh? Well, that’s exactly what the 2011 French-Canadian film ‘Starbuck‘ is about. And you’ll get to see it thanks to a DreamWorks remake. As a side note, can you imagine? The Maury Povich Show would have shows for months if not a year and some change! Check out the film trailer and details after the jump!
Studio is planning an accelerated production schedule, targeting a start date for later this year. Casting for the comedy has already begun.
The film centers on a middle-aged man whose life is turned upside down when he learns he has fathered 533 children through sperm donation. When a few hundred of the children express an irrepressible need to meet their father, he must decide whether or not he will step up and reveal his identity.
“We were completely charmed by the story in ‘Starbuck’ and saw the potential for a commercial remake with universal appeal,” said Stacey Snider, Co-Chair and CEO of DreamWorks Studios. “We are excited to be working with the original filmmaking team of Ken Scott and Andre Rouleau and look forward to our collaboration on this film.”
“We are very happy to be working with Steven, Stacey and the entire DreamWorks team,” commented writer/director Ken Scott. “They are as passionate about this story as we are. We could not have a better partner.”
Looking at the trailer, it looks like this film will not be all fun and games. At the end of the day, “Starbuck” is still a dad and with 142 kids… That’s a lot of good times AND bad times. Will you see the remake? Who should take on the role of “Starbuck”?
