Emerald City Comicon 2016 Recap and Massive Photo Gallery

This year GeekMundo descended upon Emerald City Comicon with gusto and ready to work thanks in part to ReedPOP hooking us up with a press pass (good looking out, guys!), and we did not waste any time.  Let me break it down for you so you can get to the part you really care about: the pictures.

There were some concerns about the integrity of Emerald City Comicon retaining its unique culture when ReedPOP acquired it back in 2015, and rightfully so.  Who likes change when everything is just fine?  I know I don’t.  But having seen what they can do with New York Comic Con, I was very open to seeing what they could do with their first official ECCC (at the time ReedPOP acquired ECCC in 2015, all they could do was facilitate, as the Con was right around the corner).  I was thoroughly impressed.  And quite frankly, despite the changes to policies concerning cosplay and props, Emerald City Comicon hadn’t changed so much that it became unrecognizable.  I’ve been going every year since 2012–minus 2014 due to surgery–so I feel pretty qualified in saying that it just keeps getting better and better.  The badges this year were amazing, as they featured some sick covers from top Image Comics offerings like I Hate Fairyland and Tokyo Ghost.  The layout seemed a lot better and less clustered which made walking around easier.  Plus, the organizers were able to secure an Image Comics Spring Formal which meant you could relive the day you stunted on your haters at prom.  I couldn’t make it because life happens, but that was a big step for setting up ECCC as a viable competitor to San Diego Comic-Con (which isn’t enjoying the best PR right now thanks to a disastrous hotel sale).

I believe that is the goal.  For the first time in my recent memory (correct me if I’m wrong) but I saw a large banner for the upcoming Emerald City series coming to NBC in the Washington State Convention Center where Emerald City Comicon is held.  I don’t remember ever seeing that type of SDCC or NYCC-ish promo before.  Celebrity guests were apparently spotted at the Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle which means these folks are sticking around a while to mix and mingle.  I would be remiss if I didn’t explain that some people were displeased with the offering of celebrity guests, but for comic book fans the list of comic creators and artists was plentiful.  So it really depended on your priorities for the Con.

There were lots of comics available, and our wallet is a testament to this because we walked away with some serious loot.  We caught up with our good friend of the blog, Orlando Harding, the creator of the RRH and Night Stalker comic series and talked the Niobe comic book series with the fine folks at Stranger Comics.  The amount of reading I have to do… My weekends will be nothing but comics and chill for the forseeable future.  And I am so damn stoked.

So if you haven’t checked out Emerald City Comicon yet, then I highly advise that you block out March 2-5, 2017 on your calendar because it sells out earlier and earlier every year.  ReedPOP is definitely going to try and up the ante now that it is strategically placed in the Pacific Northwest so don’t miss out on the opportunity to attend if you can take it.  ECCC is still small enough to be enjoyable but large enough to feel like there’s so much to see and so little time.

Now, without further ado, the pictures!
