Writing a recap is fun and all, but it’s been a minute since we’ve done a recap video where you can really see our personalities shine.  So, to save time, and skip the verbose bullshit, we decided to do a simulcast on Periscope, and on YouTube for our Fear The Walking Dead recap.

For those who don’t have time to watch the video (watch it!  It’s only 11 minutes long!), I thought the pilot episode was really strong to start the series.  It was a slow build, but it’s the kind that if you’re into the little details, and like your suspense full-bodied and rich–no, I’m not talking about coffee–then you would have liked this episode.  Here are a few things I found disconcerting.  SPOILERS AHEAD!

Abandon hope of no spoilers all ye who read beyond here!

Okay, here we go:

  • The emphasis seemed to be on the kids, teens and little ones alike, going missing.  What’s troubling is the adults don’t seem to care or take notice?  There are missing children fliers everywhere, the high school where Madison (Kim Dickens, Sons of Anarchy, House of Cards) and Travis (Cliff Curtis, Training Day, Gang Related) teach is down to only five kids on a school bus, and boyfriends are going missing.  Why are  they being hit so hard?
  • Would any of us notice?  Or would we be so caught up in our daily lives, just as the characters, both main and supporting, seem to be that we wouldn’t know that something really bad is happening until it’s too late to prepare or protect ourselves?
  • Everyone seems to disregard the marginalized characters like druggie Nick (Frank Dillane, Sense8) or the bullied Tobias (Lincoln Castellanos, The Mentalist)
