The new trailer for Free Birds is all the things you want in an animated movie for kids and families: cute, funny, with a little wit and inside jokes that will fly over the kiddies’ heads. I know I’m happy to take the mini-geeks to see this.
As an aside, I just have one gripe from what I’ve seen in the trailer. I’m assuming the film takes place in the Northeast, right? Okay, so if it’s in the Northeast area, why are the Native American characters in the movie wearing FREAKING war bonnets? In case you didn’t know, and you don’t have to be a fan of Native Appropriations to figure this out, war bonnets are worn by Plains Indian men. That’s my only issue. So, if you’re going to take your mini-geeks to see this, have a conversation about the representations in the film if they’re old enough to understand. I did. You can start here.
