I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about Joel Edgerton‘s upcoming film Loving. Edgerton and Ruth Negga (AMC’s Preacher) star as Richard and Mildred Loving, the interracial couple that was sentenced to prison in 1958 for getting married and breaking Virginia’s anti-miscegenation laws. If the names sound familiar that’s because you’ve most likely heard about the historic Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia, which made any such laws against interracial marriage illegal.
In this touching clip, Richard asks Mildred to marry him in the most earnest way. It’s hard to believe these two people aren’t actually together because the way they emote, man… Just watch and you’ll see what I mean:
Mushy stuff aside, this looks really good. Based on all the buzz Loving is receiving in Cannes, you can bet your last dollar that it’s going to be an Oscar contender. How could it not?
