Two teaser trailers for ‘Bates Motel’, A&E’s prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’, have been released. Remember that feeling you got when you saw ‘American Horror Story’ teasers for the first time? Yeah, these clips are close.
I know that AHS and ‘Bates Motel’ are different, in the sense that one is supernatural, and the other–’Bates Motel’–doesn’t really have that supernatural element. Still, I couldn’t help but think of the more tame promos for ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ when I saw the guy’s feet dangling and ablaze. Even if both shows are different, showrunners are obviously trying to appeal to the same interest in viewers: distinctly American horror or suspense content. I’m okay with that.
I’m not sure about Vera Farmiga‘s casting as Norma Bates. I just can’t imagine her going to the dark places Norma’s character obviously needs to go to make Norman turn into the “psycho” (pun intended) he eventually becomes. I could be proven wrong though. Check the teasers:
