I’m not sure we need another Power Rangers movie, mainly because they were kind of cornballs when I was a kid, but there’s going to be one, and we’ve got the date. Get your Megazord sequence ready because Lionsgate and Saban have announced the film reboot will hit theaters on July 22nd, 2016. This would pit the Rangers against Marvel’s Doctor Strange, a third Planet of the Apes movie, Ice Age 5, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur, and The Bourne Betrayal. Of those three films, Doctor Strange and Ice Age are the biggest threats. However, we don’t have a ton of details yet, so the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers might actually be fine.
Producers on the flick are Haim Saban, Allison Shearmur, Roberto Orci, and Brian Casentini, with Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz penning the script.
From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, THOR) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.
