New The Babadook Clip Makes Our Skin Crawl

When I first wrote about Australian indie horror film The Babadook a month back, I mentioned how genuinely creeped out I was by the trailer.  Unfortunately, this new clip has managed to cement my horror… And I love it.   The Babadook has to be one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2014, and I’m chomping at the bit to watch it when it hits theaters and VOD via IFC Midnight on November 28th.

In this clip, Amelia (Essie Davis) tries and fails to get her friend Claire (Hailey McElhinney) to understand she’s going through some things, and is being stalked.  I just want to put out there that Claire sounds positively awful.  Anyway, after Claire hangs up, the phone rings almost immediately, and when Amelia answers, she gets the shock of her life.  Oh, my God… It’s pure nightmare fuel.  I actually felt my spine tingle.  Watch:

I’m miffed that it’s not going to be out this month for our 31 Days of Horror blog fest, but I’ll wait.

Synopsis:

THE BABADOOK is a psychological thriller in the tradition of Polanski’s classic domestic horrors (Rosemary’s Baby, The Tenant, Repulsion). Using her award winning short horror MONSTER as a springboard, writer/director JENNIFER KENT has developed the script at the BINGER LAB in Amsterdam with assistance from SCREEN NSW, WAKING DREAM PRODUCTIONS and SCREEN AUSTRALIA.

Produced by CAUSEWAY FILMS in association with SMOKING GUN PRODUCTIONS, The Babadook premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in January 2014 to rave reviews and international sales. The film will be released theatrically in Australia on 22 May 2014 followed by an international release across the US, UK and Europe in Fall 2014.
