This week’s SNDTRK song is the “Twin Peaks Theme” from the cult classic TV show Twin Peaks starring Kyle MacLachlan as FBI agent Dale Cooper, the poor guy tasked with coming to a fictional podunk Washington town to investigate the death of homecoming queen Laura Palmer.
To be honest, when Twin Peaks first aired, I wasn’t even in the United States so I didn’t watch it when it first came out. I’d heard of the show by the time I was in high school, but my interest wasn’t peaked until I’d heard Badalementi’s positively haunting theme song for the show on the Pure Moods Vol. 1 album.
Equal parts beautiful and slightly frightening, the “Twin Peaks Theme” is one of the most instantly recognizable theme songs ever composed. It was one of my favorite songs on Pure Moods, and it still is despite the fact that the album is long lost. I figured with news of the show returning to TV via Showtime in 2016, it would be good to show this iconic series a little love. Check it out:
