The first trailer for The Big Short (Paramount Pictures) has given me so much life. Starting in 2005, we see Christian Bale looking absolutely worse for the wear–which is not a bad thing considering the character he plays–as he tries to bring attention to the fact that the bankers on Wall Street are playing a dangerous game that could–and did–lead to a financial crisis. Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, and Ryan Gosling round out the band of would-be misfits who all agree that “something shady” is going down. Set with Led Zeppelin’s powerful version of “When the Levee Breaks”, a very apt song choice for the trailer considering the circumstances and subject, we also see bankers and Wall Street types living it up at strip clubs and laughing diabolically. I love it.
