Kristen Stewart has gotten a lot of flack for her flat performances in the past, and to be honest, not all of it has been without merit. Her turn in Snow White and The Huntsman is a fine example of that. But she is looking to silence the haters in IFC Films’ Camp X-Ray, a dramatic look at the unlikely camaraderie between an Army guard and a prisoner, played by Payman Maadi, in Guantanamo Bay. Oh, and Lane Garrison, who played Tweener in Prison Break, looks amazing as well. He reminded me of some platoon sergeants I came across in the Army*.
I can see why the film got mixed reviews at Sundance, because the subject matter is controversial. And unless Stewart really goes in, it may fall flat, but I’m seriously interested. As is customary with IFC, you can catch it in theaters and on VOD on October 28th.
